After reading this post on HackerNews, I also decided to see how efficient of a code I could write that would compute some result of all primes that fit in 32 bits. I actually thought of doing it for 64 bits at first, since that would have been really interesting, but I soon found out that there might be a bit too many primes at that size.

An idea is a living thing. It has a birth and a growth and an adulthood and a death. These “newborn” ideas are not often faced with excitement but are often faced with a challenging journey towards maturity. Why is it that the “fresh,” bearing the potential for such impact, sometimes encounters resistance within the very areas of knowledge it seeks to enrich?

Overthinking and overanalysing leads us to be hopelessly cautious when considering the motions and actions we take. When we expend more mental and emotional energy (into the spiritual world) than is productive, communication between the physical is weakened.

After the surge in GPU prices in the last couple years, it was also expected that RAM and SSD prices would follow. In an high-frequency trading environment, we need to have a trading system which provides interfaces for receiving data and interacting with the market for our trading models (the mathematical or algorithmic logic that analyses data and decides how to trade). One really important thing to first consider in our trading system is to separate it from our trading models. If our trading system is coupled with our trading models, it can become a nightmare situation to modify model behaviour or to add new, fundamentally different models as the time it will take to implement them will be too much.

This April, I am going to do something that I’ve never done before. Which is to write and publish a blog post every single day for the entirety of the month.

Everyone knows about Deep Blue; it is the first chess computer that beat a reigning world champion—Garry Kasparov. Although losing to Kasparov in 1996, Deep Blue came on top in the rematch in 1997. The matches, however, are not the whole story. Creating this computer engine took decades of work from researchers and the chess world. Feng-hsiung Hsu—the man who started the project—said that the team “had spent close to 30 man-years on the project when Deep Blue won the match.”[^1] Further from that, some ideas used in Deep Blue were theorised nearly half a century earlier. We will look at those ideas and how the current computer engines came to be—the ones that now shape how chess is played.

I had never properly learned how OOP worked or how the ideas behind it contributed to good code. I had never written humongous coding projects until recently (thanks to me being a competitive programmer). And in my head, I had this idea of Java is bad, and since Java == OOP, I was begrudging against this year’s module on Java—more preciely, programming practices and applications.

Writing is awesome. It allows you to clear your mind, your thoughts, your ideas by forcing you to think about them properly and write about them, speak about them. Writing has been such an influential tool in dissemination over millenia that I think we must continue writing, maybe not to spread ideas, but for the sake of writing, for the sake of clarity. A written paragraph is the purest of thoughts.

During my last data structures lecture, our professor was talking about priority queues, selection and insertion sorts. And he mentioned, as a non-examable material, how we might achieve a faster insertion when considering a sorted sequence-based priority queueue.

After OpenAI become mainstream enough, I started becoming fascinated by searching for the existence of an AI model that would mimic myself or another person’s text messages. It would basically work by scraping and refactoring messages from a platform (Discord or WhatsApp) and creating a fine-tuned model, which would be served as a bot on Discord (or on any other platform).”

A couple years ago, I was truly fascinated by 3Blue1Brown’s videos. It was actually his video on an unexpected result that came from colliding blocks that really captured me in the art of mathematics. I couldn’t believe that two simple blocks would produce $\pi = 3.1415926535897...$

As some of you readers may know, I was an IB student for the last two years and got my diploma a couple weeks ago, on July 6th. I’m dedicating this post to discussing my results, talking about each subject, discussing how I studied those subjects, and where I’ll be attending university. Let’s start with my HL subjects.

In my latest post on why mathematics, as a research area, is lonely, I talked about why people just hate mathematics shortly but wanted to write another post, and here I am. In there, I mentioned how our society is kind of divided into two: the ones that are good at mathematics and the ones that are not good at mathematics. I also alluded to how our teaching of mathematics in schools are terrible. In this post, I’m going to expand on what I talked in the other post, giving additional insights.

After a really long time, I am finally writing a post that is essay-esque, which will be about why I think mathematics is lonely. I watched a video about on this, and I wanted to write about it too (maybe in more depth). Note that I am not a maths student (I will be majoring in computer science next year), but I think I can give some insights around the topic. I found a couple reasons to why mathematics is lonely—around our culture and even between mathematicians—and why there is some hope.

The last couple of months (four) have been… tiring, at the very least. I had two mocks over the last one and a half months, and I am now having the “real deal.” It is really stressful since I HAVE to get a 776 at HLs. My mocks went really well (6s and 7s at everything), but now I’m not sure how I’m going to do on the real ones.

I decided to do a presentation on Maclaurin series for Maths AA HL class, which is in the curriculum. I made the slides for the presentation using Beamer (with LaTeX), and honestly, it was great. By the way, I kind of utilised 3B1B’s technique of teaching. Taylor Swift Series (Maclaurin Series), a joke.

Hey! It’s 2024 now, woo! It’s been a while since I wrote some stuff here, so this post is going to be all about that—random stuff that happened over the last couple of months. I basically don’t have anything big going on to write.

I did not think that I would say this, but I think it is time to say goodbye to Vivaldi. For those who do not know what Vivaldi is, it is a web browser based on privacy and user power, and do please check it out as it is a great browser for anyone, but, as I will discuss, it is not for me.

Imagine you are taking an exam—a very long exam, let’s say it is three hours—and you are stuck in a part of the test and cannot pursue further; you just cannot solve anymore questions or problems. If you are allowed, you have to go to the toilet. The main thing about going to the toilet is that, even if you are not going to use it, you will walk to and from the toilet, giving you plenty of time to stretch your legs, arms, and whatever. I believe that this allows you to clear your mind of the stress of the exam by simply walking.

In Python, there is something that even the creator of Python despises. The thing that I am referring to is the “while, else” statement. Some context is that I was in a computer science course and we had to create some text-based game, and I—unironically—used the forbidden technique, the while else statement. The section of code that uses while else is given below, and for the interested, the full code is at the bottom of the page.

Robert DiYanni’s poem titled “The Art of Failing” uses repetition of expressions to assert the idea of failing in a way that contradicts conventional thoughts, suggesting that failing is actually something one should desire and actively pursue. The poem consists of a total of 19 lines, with three-line stanzas except for the last one.

Inspired by the book written by Harper Lee with the same title as the movie, “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Robert Mulligan is a must-watch. The film is set at a time when human inequality and racism were making headlines, and there were many protesters against them. However, it depicts an American era where gender equality didn’t exist and everyone had some kind of racist thought (except for someone). This movie amazingly shows how gender inequality happens in some parts of our lives.

Taner, bu eserinde topluma eleştirel bir bakış açısıyla yaklaşmaktadır. Bu oyunda köylerden kentlere göç eden insanların yaşamından ve gecekondulular ile devlet arasındaki çatışma bahsedilmektedir.

Climate change is an issue that has been very important for the last two decades. People have started to worry about what is going to happen to the world and humans if we continue this usage of materials and energy. To learn what happened and to have new perspectives, people are watching documentaries and films about global warming and climate change. A film/documentary made in 2007 is now one of the most searched films about climate change as the film has Leonardo DiCaprio as a narrator and co-producer. The film’s intention was to raise awareness and give out a message. The film did what its intention was, but it was very light and it didn’t motivate people to take action.

Eski Türk Edebiyatı 13. yüzyıldan 19. yüzyıla kadarki süreyi kapsamaktadır. Bu süre içinde Divan Edebiyatı da dahil birçok edebiyat yapılmıştır. Son yüzyılda bu edebiyatlara karşı eleştiriler yapılmıştır. Bu yazıda Divan şiiri üzerine yapılan eleştiriler ve değerlendirmeler ana çizgisiyle gösterilmiştir. 13 ila 19. yüzyıllarda Avrupa’nın bazı soylu aileleri şiiri desteklemiştir. Bu nedenle, divan şairlerinin kaside yazmalarının, o çağların devlet ve toplum düzenin gereklerinden biridir. 19. yüzyıldan beri binlerce beyitten oluşan eserler zaman içinde kısalaşarak eski işlevini kaybetmiştir. İşte bu değişim sürecinde mesneviler modern roman ve öykü olmuştur. Divan edebiyatının bir diğer adı da gazel edebiyatıdır. Gazeller tarihimizde ayrıcalıklı bir yere sahiptir. Son dönemlerde gazel de günümüz sanat anlayışına uyuşarak gazelleme adıyla tekrar sanatımıza girmiştir. Divan şiiri nazım biçimlerinden olup şu anki döneme kadar değişmeden gelen tek nazım biçimi rübaidir. Rübai, derin düşüncelerin yoğun duyguların içine sığdırılmaya çalışıldığı dört dizelik bir biçimdir.

Attila İlhan, Cumhuriyet Dönemi şairlerimizden biridir. Hayatı boyunca edebiyatla ilgilenen İlhan, birçok şiir kitabı ve birçok roman yazmıştır. Bu incelemede İlhan’ın Ben Sana Mecburum kitabındaki Viyolonsel Yalnızlığı ve İkinci Viyolonsel şiirleri incelenecektir. Bu şiirlerin yer aldığı Cehennem Dairesi bölümünde özgürlükçü hareketler hakkında şiirlere yer verilmiştir ve bunun üzerine bir inceleme yapılmaya çalışılmıştır.

İvan Turgenyev, Rus edebiyatında yerini almış büyük bir yazar olmakla beraber ortaya birçok eser koymuştur. Turgenyev’in yazmış olduğu eserler ona benzeyen bir sonraki jenerasyondan gelen yazarları oluşturmuştur. Bu yazarlara örnek olarak Henry James ve Joseph Conrad verilebilir. Turgenyev’in Tolstoy, Dostoyevski ve Gogol gibi Rus yazarları arasında yerini almasını sağlayan düşüncelerinin çoğu Babalar ve Oğullar eserinde bulunmaktadır. Bu yüzdendir ki Turgenyev’i anlamak Babalar ve Oğulları anlamaktan geçmektedir. Babalar ve Oğullar eserine birçok yönden bakılınabilmektedir: Bazarov ve nihilizm, eserin başlığından da çıkarılabilen jenerasyon farklılıkları ve ayrımı.
