Why are we so Slow to Adopt Fresh Ideas?
The “journey” of fresh ideas taken towards maturity in the human and natural sciences and why it may slow their adoption.
An idea is a living thing. It has a birth and a growth and an adulthood and a death. These “newborn” ideas are not often faced with excitement but are often faced with a challenging journey towards maturity. Why is it that the “fresh,” bearing the potential for such impact, sometimes encounters resistance within the very areas of knowledge it seeks to enrich?
Overthinking, Overanalysing
A tribute to Lateralus' spiral of freedom and growth.
Overthinking and overanalysing leads us to be hopelessly cautious when considering the motions and actions we take. When we expend more mental and emotional energy (into the spiritual world) than is productive, communication between the physical is weakened.
Silver Lining in the Ram Prices
Some thoughts on the recent price increases and shortages in hardware.
After the surge in GPU prices in the last couple years, it was also expected that RAM and SSD prices would follow. But what wasn’t expected was the hit to be this big, nearly doubling in some cases compared to 2025 for Q1 of 2026. These AI companies are continuously fueling their massive datacenters and as investment comes in, they will not stop.
Java and Education
Some thoughts on Java and how important good education and a good teacher is.
I had never properly learned how OOP worked or how the ideas behind it contributed to good code. I had never written humongous coding projects until recently (thanks to me being a competitive programmer). And in my head, I had this idea of Java is bad, and since Java == OOP, I was begrudging against this year’s module on Java—more preciely, programming practices and applications.
Some reflection on writing
Reflecting on how we should think about writing and some AI criticism.
Writing is awesome. It allows you to clear your mind, your thoughts, your ideas by forcing you to think about them properly and write about them, speak about them. Writing has been such an influential tool in dissemination over millenia that I think we must continue writing, maybe not to spread ideas, but for the sake of writing, for the sake of clarity. A written paragraph is the purest of thoughts.
Creating a clone of yourself
...as a text messaging AI model using OpenAI's fine-tuning capabilities.
After OpenAI become mainstream enough, I started becoming fascinated by searching for the existence of an AI model that would mimic myself or another person’s text messages. It would basically work by scraping and refactoring messages from a platform (Discord or WhatsApp) and creating a fine-tuned model, which would be served as a bot on Discord (or on any other platform).”
How to Practice Mathematics as an Art
Kutay discusses two starting points on how students can practice mathematics as an art.
A couple years ago, I was truly fascinated by 3Blue1Brown’s videos. It was actually his video on an unexpected result that came from colliding blocks that really captured me in the art of mathematics. I couldn’t believe that two simple blocks would produce
Why Do People Just Hate Mathematics
Kutay talks about why he thinks people just hate mathematics, finding teaching of mathematics the main culprit.
In my latest post on why mathematics, as a research area, is lonely, I talked about why people just hate mathematics shortly but wanted to write another post, and here I am. In there, I mentioned how our society is kind of divided into two: the ones that are good at mathematics and the ones that are not good at mathematics. I also alluded to how our teaching of mathematics in schools are terrible. In this post, I’m going to expand on what I talked in the other post, giving additional insights.
Why Mathematics is Lonely
Kutay gives insights into why mathematics may be "lonely" and why that might not be the case.
After a really long time, I am finally writing a post that is essay-esque, which will be about why I think mathematics is lonely. I watched a video about on this, and I wanted to write about it too (maybe in more depth). Note that I am not a maths student (I will be majoring in computer science next year), but I think I can give some insights around the topic. I found a couple reasons to why mathematics is lonely—around our culture and even between mathematicians—and why there is some hope.
A Different Look on Procrastination
A post about Kutay's "different" look and thoughts around procrastination.
procrastination (noun): The act or habit of procrastinating; a putting off to a future time; delay; dilatoriness. (The Century Dictionary)
New Years, New Startings Update 2024
Kutay gives some updates through the New Year about some mostly things.
Hey! It’s 2024 now, woo! It’s been a while since I wrote some stuff here, so this post is going to be all about that—random stuff that happened over the last couple of months. I basically don’t have anything big going on to write.
Going to the Toilet is a Tactic
Kutay gives insights into why going to the toilet in an exam is a tactic that everyone should use.
Imagine you are taking an exam—a very long exam, let’s say it is three hours—and you are stuck in a part of the test and cannot pursue further; you just cannot solve anymore questions or problems. If you are allowed, you have to go to the toilet. The main thing about going to the toilet is that, even if you are not going to use it, you will walk to and from the toilet, giving you plenty of time to stretch your legs, arms, and whatever. I believe that this allows you to clear your mind of the stress of the exam by simply walking.
Thoughts on Talking, Conversing
Kutay's thoughts and ideas on talking in a group of two people or more.
Good morning, good afternoon, or good evening, wherever you are in the wide world. Today, I was chatting with some of my friends when I realised something, and I want to talk about that.
Trying to Go to College
Kutay's thoughts on going to college or university in the UK and US as an international student.
Hello, again… I thought I wouldn’t write another post for a while, well, because I have a couple of things going on in my personal life, one of which is obviously college applications.
Welcome to the Deterministic Blog
An introduction and welcome to this blog (formerly known as the Deterministic Blog) by Kutay Bozkurt.
Hello, and welcome to the Deterministic Blog! I am Mehmet Kutay Bozkurt, in my junior year of high school. I fricking love to code and love to do what I want to do. And this blog is what I want to do in my free time. This blog is going to be a general blog where I post anything related to coding, software development, mathematics, physics, and overall things that I love. I want this blog to be a place where I put my thoughts and ideas, and I want you, the viewer, to learn from and read what I write.
